The Presenters Play…

Regular readers of this blog – both of them – will know that I’m an avid listener of  BBC Radio 3, and will be listening even more over the summer when the annual season of Promenade Concerts (“The Proms”) begins in a week’s time. That’s why I thought I’d post this video I came across recently, which shows a number of the presenters playing duets on the piano. It’s quite a surprise to see what people look like when you only know them by their voice, so here’s your chance to see if they look like you think they sounded!

The piece they’re playing – with varying degrees of success – is the Berceuse from the Dolly Suite by Gabriel Fauré which those of us of a certain age will remember as the music from Listen with Mother.

  1. nice video – its always surprising to see what radio 4 (or 3) presenters look like in the “flesh”

there is of course the same problem with long-distance collaborations with people you’ve never met. in the past both r. ivison and i have expected to meet female collaborators (who we’ve only interacted with via email)… only to find very obviously males waiting for us (in the bar in his instance).

  2. Rob Ivison Says:

    dammit, Smail!

at least he was dishy… a certain Professor Cimatti, in his younger days, at the bar next door to the Keck Observatory in Waimea.

  3. you mean he was one of the few astronomers taller than you?

anyway – i’ve taken to being more circumspect with my more endearing sign-offs… at least with those astronomers whose genders i am doubtful about .

    I shouldn’t say this, but I do have a bit of a crush on Sara Mohr-Pietsch 😉
