In the quotation, “other” means “apart from those already mentioned”—not just in the same sentence, but also in the one before.

Of course, the main languages is most of America are Spanish and Portuguese.

But many words are different in Mexican Spanish compared to Spanish Spanish. Likewise with Brazilian Portuguese.
